The district pages describe the road as closed in winter and typically open from May; Wikipedia gives early June to mid-November in the past tense
This is the arrival guide the TDI Holiday Ventures planning desk in Srinagar would hand to a friend. It covers the three ways into the Kashmir Valley, how long each takes from ten starting points, what changed on the railway in 2025 and 2026, and what to plan for on the day you land. Most times and distances name the source and date they came from; figures that are our own estimate or sum are labelled as such. Where sources disagree we show the range and say they differ. We last checked on 25 October 2026. Flights, trains and roads change, so confirm the schedule for your own date before you book.
What are the three ways to reach Kashmir?
You can fly to Srinagar, take a train to Jammu Tawi or Katra and change to the Vande Bharat for Srinagar, or travel up the Jammu–Srinagar highway (NH-44) by car, taxi or bus. From the big cities in the table below, flying is the quickest way in; from Katra, where there is no airport, the Vande Bharat is quicker. The train is the newest option: since late April 2026 the Vande Bharat starts at Jammu Tawi and runs through to Srinagar. Where the table gives a road time to compare (Jammu and Delhi), the road is the slowest, and it is the one the district page warns about for landslides and snow.
| Way in | Typical time | Suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight to Srinagar (SXR) | Delhi about 1 h 30 min; Mumbai about 2 h 45 min to 3 h; Jammu about 45 min | Short trips and families with children | Weather delays in the snow season; airlines change routes by season |
| Train: Jammu Tawi to Srinagar | About 4 h 45 min to 4 h 50 min for 267 to 269 km | Travellers already in north India, rail fans, anyone who wants to skip the mountain road | No service on Tuesdays; you must first reach Jammu Tawi or Katra; timings changed in 2026 |
| Road: Jammu to Srinagar | 6 to 10 hours for about 290 km | Large groups with luggage, pilgrims combining Katra, road-trippers | Landslides and snow, mostly November to March; convoy stoppages; a long hill drive |
| Road: Delhi to Srinagar | About 800 km, 15 to 18 hours (district page) | Self-drive travellers who can add days | Not a one-day drive; sources put the distance at 800 to 876 km |
How do you reach Kashmir from your city?
The table gives typical times from ten starting points. Flight times are the usual scheduled duration of a nonstop where one exists, not door to door. We took them from the Srinagar district administration's pages, Wikipedia's airline list for Srinagar and public route listings read on 25 October 2026. Route-search listings are aggregated and sometimes contradict themselves, so we use them only for typical durations. Airlines add and drop routes by season: use the table to compare options, then read the exact schedule for your date on the airline's own page.
| From | Flight to Srinagar | Train | Road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi | Nonstop, about 1 h 30 min (Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air, IndiGo and SpiceJet are listed) | We found no through timetable to Srinagar (the Srinagar district page labels a Vande Bharat 'New Delhi Srinagar (via USBRL)' but gives no train number or timetable; check IRCTC for your date). Documented routes: Vande Bharat New Delhi–Katra (about 8 h 20 min, Wikipedia), then the Srinagar train from Katra; or any train to Jammu Tawi and the Srinagar Vande Bharat from there | About 800 km, 15 to 18 h (district page); other sources say 850 to 876 km |
| Mumbai | Nonstop, about 2 h 45 min to 3 h (Air India, Akasa Air and IndiGo are listed) | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train; check IRCTC for the timetable | Not practical: about 2,275 km by land (Wikipedia) |
| Kolkata | Sources differ on nonstops: IndiGo is listed on Wikipedia, while a route listing on 25 October 2026 said none were running then. Connecting itineraries via Delhi: about 5 h 10 min to 12 h in total | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train | Not practical |
| Bengaluru | Nonstop on some schedules (Air India Express and IndiGo are listed; one listing shows about 3 h 35 min). Otherwise one stop via Chandigarh or Delhi, from about 7 h 10 min on the shortest listings | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train | Not practical |
| Hyderabad | Nonstop on IndiGo on some days of the week, about 3 h. Otherwise one stop, about 4 h 45 min to 7 h on average | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train | Not practical |
| Chennai | No nonstop in the sources we checked. One stop via Delhi, Chandigarh or Mumbai: listings run from about 5 h 30 min to 12 h 50 min | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train | Not practical |
| Ahmedabad | Nonstop, about 2 h 10 min (IndiGo and SpiceJet) | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train | Not practical |
| Pune | Sources differ: Wikipedia's Srinagar list has no Pune nonstop, the district page lists Pune, and a route listing shows itineraries of 3 h 40 min to 5 h. Plan on one stop (Delhi, Amritsar or Chandigarh) unless your date shows a nonstop | Long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Srinagar train | Not practical |
| Jammu | Nonstop, about 45 min (Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and SpiceJet are listed) | Vande Bharat from Jammu Tawi, about 4 h 45 min to 4 h 50 min, six days a week, none on Tuesdays | NH-44, 290 to 293 km, 6 to 10 h |
| Katra | No airport at Katra; Jammu airport is about 50 km away (Wikipedia) | Vande Bharat Katra–Srinagar, just under 3 h on the June 2025 timetable; check the current time | We found no published Katra to Srinagar road distance. We do not add Katra to Jammu (42 to 49 km) to Jammu to Srinagar (290 to 293 km), because that sum assumes the drive doubles back through Jammu, which your route may not need to do. Ask us for the distance for your route |
If you want packages for travellers flying in from your city, our city pages cover Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune and Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. The Kashmir tour packages by city hub lists them together. The Kashmir packages named on this page (Quick Getaway, Classic and Gulmarg Stay) start with arrival in Srinagar and list airfare as an exclusion; our Ladakh packages start in Leh.
How do you reach Kashmir by flight?
Srinagar International Airport (code SXR) is the airport for the Kashmir Valley. The Airports Authority of India page for it was last updated on 25 October 2026; the district administration names it Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport, at Humhama in Budgam. Wikipedia's undated list of airlines at Srinagar names Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air, IndiGo and SpiceJet, with nonstop destinations that include Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Leh. The district page still lists Vistara, which stopped operating as a separate airline on 12 November 2024 when it merged into Air India, so treat older guides with care.
Typical flying times: Delhi is about 1 hour 30 minutes (the district page says about 1.5 hours and a public route listing on 25 October 2026 averaged 1 hour 33 minutes). Mumbai is about 3 hours on the district page and averaged 2 hours 47 minutes on the listing. Jammu to Srinagar is about 45 minutes on both. The longer times in the city table are one-stop itineraries and include the wait at the connecting airport.
Fares move daily and TDI does not set them. As a guide, the same public route listing showed Delhi to Srinagar one-way fares usually between ₹4,654 and ₹6,967, and return fares between ₹10,562 and ₹14,537. The Quick Getaway package below lists airfare as an exclusion, so add your flight to its price. The lowest per-person rate in our package price tables is the 3-night, 4-day Quick Getaway at ₹8,100 per person for a group of six (₹9,120 for four, ₹11,950 for two); each package page shows its own price table by group size.
The district page says snow falls from December to February and tells travellers to check weather and road conditions before they travel. Weather can delay a flight in any season, so avoid tight same-day onward connections on the day you land and leave the first evening unplanned. You can also fly to Jammu and continue by train or road, which makes sense if your fare to Jammu is much lower or you plan to visit Katra first. It adds a leg and a transfer, so compare the total time.
Is there a direct train to Srinagar, and where does it start?
Yes. The Vande Bharat Express runs from Jammu Tawi to Srinagar. It began on 6 June 2025 as a Katra–Srinagar service on the 272 km Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla rail link, flagged off by the Prime Minister, with regular runs from 7 June 2025. It was extended to start at Jammu Tawi in late April 2026: the Kashmir Observer reported the flag-off for 29 April, other reports date the extension 30 April, and public services were scheduled from 2 May. As listed on 20 August 2026 there are two trains, 26401/26402 and 26404/26403, each with 20 coaches, calling at Udhampur, Katra, Reasi and Banihal. Reports give the journey as 267 to 269 km in about 4 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes. The launch report said it runs six days a week in both directions, with no service on Tuesdays.
The trains have heating systems and heated windshields, and the DD News/IANS report of 7 June 2025 describes them as designed to function in extreme winter conditions. That is a design feature, not a promise that a train runs on every snow day. The Chenab Bridge on the line is about 359 m above the riverbed, and the Anji Khad Bridge is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge; a Daily Excelsior travelogue of 27 September 2026 singles out both.
What are the Vande Bharat timings and fares?
We could not open an official page showing the current timetable, so we give the last published times with their dates. These are the Katra–Srinagar times printed when the service launched in June 2025:
| Direction (June 2025) | Departs | Banihal | Arrives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Katra to Srinagar, morning | 08:10 | 09:58 | 11:08 |
| Katra to Srinagar, afternoon | 14:55 | 16:40 | 17:53 |
| Srinagar to Katra, morning | 08:00 | 09:02 | 10:58 |
| Srinagar to Katra, afternoon | 14:00 | 15:10 | 16:48 |
Two later changes make those times out of date. The trains now start at Jammu Tawi (late April 2026), and the maximum speed on the 111 km Katra–Banihal section was raised from 75 or 85 km/h to 100 km/h in early October 2026. A stop at Reasi was added from 29 October 2025, with train 26401 listed at Reasi at 08:28 after leaving Katra at 08:10. Read your departure time from IRCTC or the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) when you book and again the day before you travel.
At launch the Katra–Srinagar fare was ₹715 in the chair car and ₹1,320 in executive class, according to Greater Kashmir, the Kashmir Observer and DNA India; the reports we read do not say whether the figure is one way. We found no published Jammu Tawi–Srinagar fare, so check IRCTC. Book through irctc.co.in or the IRCTC Rail Connect app (district page). Demand was high at the start: the Katra station superintendent told Greater Kashmir on 11 June 2025 that no seats were available for the next 10 days. On 20 August 2026 the Daily Excelsior reported approval for a third pair, 26407/26408, between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar via Udhampur, with no timings, days or start date, so do not plan around it until it appears on IRCTC.
Check status before you leave for the station. The Daily Excelsior reported on 10 October 2026 that the Railway Board had cancelled more than 250 trains connecting New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin with other cities, because of expected congestion around those two stations, and that four trains due to leave Jammu and Katra on Friday 9 October were cancelled at short notice. One passenger said they learned half an hour to an hour before departure, and the report adds that several passengers learned only after reaching the station. The report does not name the four trains or mention the Srinagar Vande Bharat. The railway pointed passengers to helpline 139 and the NTES app. We found no published rule on screening or reporting times for the Srinagar trains at Katra or Jammu Tawi, so carry the photo ID you booked with and arrive with a margin.
Is there a direct train from Delhi to Srinagar?
In the sources we checked on 25 October 2026 we found no through timetable from Delhi, or from any other big city, to Srinagar. One source is ambiguous: the Srinagar district page (updated 16 March 2026) labels a Vande Bharat 'New Delhi Srinagar (via USBRL)', but it gives no train number, timetable or change point. Check IRCTC for your date. The Srinagar leg we can document is the Vande Bharat, and it starts at Jammu Tawi. From Delhi there are two rail routes. One is the New Delhi–Katra Vande Bharat (22439/22440), which Wikipedia lists at 655 km and about 8 hours 20 minutes, followed by the Katra–Srinagar leg of about 3 hours on the 2025 timetable. The other is any train to Jammu Tawi, then the Srinagar Vande Bharat from there.
Our own arithmetic, not a published through time: about 8 hours 20 minutes plus about 3 hours is roughly 11 hours 20 minutes of running time, before any wait at Katra. Two tickets are two separate bookings, so leave a margin or break the journey with a night in Katra or Jammu. A nonstop flight from Delhi takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, so we suggest flying from Delhi and keeping the train for the scenery or for a Vaishno Devi stop.
How do you reach Kashmir by train from Kolkata, Mumbai or the south?
The pattern we can document is the same as from Delhi: a long-distance train to Jammu Tawi or Katra, then the Vande Bharat. An older J&K Tourism page, which carries a 2019 copyright, lists trains from Jammu to Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai under names that may no longer apply; Wikipedia, for example, says the Himsagar Express now starts at Katra. We do not publish those timetables because they change and we could not confirm current ones from the railway. IRCTC is the source. Mumbai is about 2,275 km from Srinagar by land (Wikipedia), so from these cities we suggest a flight, even with one stop.
How do you reach Kashmir by road?
Buses, taxis and tempo travellers all use the Jammu–Srinagar highway. Two district pages describe the highway differently, which is why the table gives ranges.
| Route | Distance | Typical time | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jammu to Srinagar on NH-44 | 290 to 293 km on the district pages; 305 km on the older tourism page; 270 km on our own Jammu–Srinagar taxi page | 6 to 7 h on one district page, 8 to 10 h on another | Runs through the Chenani–Nashri tunnel (9.28 km, opened 2 April 2017, which Wikipedia says cut about 30 km and two hours) and the Banihal–Qazigund tunnel (8.5 km, open year-round per the district page) |
| Delhi to Srinagar via Jammu | About 800 km (district page); 850 km (our Delhi page); 876 km (Wikipedia) | 15 to 18 h (district page) | Too long for one comfortable day: plan a night stop |
| Mughal Road, Shopian to Poonch | 84 km | No time found | Seasonal: usually shut about December to April; closed temporarily on 15 October 2026 after the season's first snow |
| Srinagar to Leh on NH-1 over Zoji La | 434 km on the Srinagar and Leh district pages; Wikipedia gives 422 km | 9 to 10 h of driving (Srinagar district page); about 14 to 16 h on our own Srinagar to Leh tempo traveller page, which splits it over two days with a night in Kargil | Described as closed in winter and typically open from May (Srinagar district page: typically opens in May; Leh district page: May to November or December; Wikipedia: early June to mid-November in the past). The sources differ on dates and we found no 2026 reopening date |
Buses: J&K State Road Transport Corporation deluxe and super-deluxe buses run from the General Bus Stand in Jammu to the TRC bus stand in Srinagar, and private Volvo and sleeper buses run on the Jammu–Srinagar and Delhi–Jammu–Srinagar routes (district page). For a private car, see our Jammu to Srinagar taxi and Srinagar to Jammu tempo traveller pages; the driver can stop at the Chenani–Nashri tunnel viewpoint or Patnitop on the way. TDI confirms the exact fare on WhatsApp before you book.
Allow for stoppages. The Daily Excelsior reported on 22 September 2026 that two members of the J&K Assembly said locals on the highway in South Kashmir are held up every day for 10 to 15 minutes, whether for tourists, the Yatra or convoys; the report carries no official reply. Separately, the Daily Excelsior reported on 1 October 2026 that a bus carrying tourists overturned near Marog in Ramban district on the Jammu–Srinagar highway, with at least 33 tourists from West Bengal injured; the report gives no cause. Travel in daylight with a driver who knows the road.
What happens on these routes in winter?
The district page says NH-44 can be affected by landslides or snowfall, particularly from November to March, and Wikipedia's Srinagar entry notes frequent winter blockades. The Banihal–Qazigund tunnel lies lower than the old Jawahar Tunnel (2.85 km, opened in 1956), whose approaches Wikipedia calls avalanche-prone. Greater Kashmir reported on 3 November 2025 that snow at Peer Ki Gali typically cuts the Mughal Road for roughly five months, from December to April. On 15 October 2026 it was closed temporarily after 2 to 3 inches of snow, with no reopening date given (Daily Excelsior). The Srinagar and Leh district pages describe the Srinagar–Leh road as closed in winter and typically open from May, while Wikipedia gives early June to mid-November in the past tense and notes that heavy snowfall on the highest passes can block traffic. The dates therefore differ by source, we found no 2026 reopening date, and nobody can promise Zoji La will be open on a given day: ask us to check before you plan it.
Nobody can promise that a road, a pass or a flight will run on a given day. For winter trips we suggest you arrive by air or by the Vande Bharat, keep the first night flexible, and ask us to check the road before any highway transfer. The J&K Police tourist safety page lists the Traffic Control Units for road status: Srinagar 0194-2450022 and 2485396, and Ramban 9419993745 (the page shows no date). For what winter looks like once you arrive, read our guides to Kashmir in December and Kashmir in January, or see the winter and snow tour packages.
Which way suits you? A quick decision box
| If this is you | Choose | Why | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| You have four or five days and live in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad or the south | Fly to Srinagar | Delhi is about 1 h 30 min and Mumbai about 3 h, which leaves your days for the Valley | The fare and the flight time for your date |
| You travel with young children or grandparents | Fly; or the train from Jammu Tawi if you are already in Jammu | The flight keeps the day short; the train replaces a 6 to 10 hour hill drive with about 4 h 45 min | Daytime arrival; no Tuesday train |
| You like trains and bridges | Vande Bharat | It crosses the Chenab and Anji Khad bridges and has equipment for winter conditions | Current timetable and fare on IRCTC |
| You are combining Vaishno Devi with Kashmir | Train to Katra, then the Srinagar train | Katra is on the line, so you can break the journey there | A night's margin at Katra |
| You have a big group or lots of luggage | Road with a private vehicle from Jammu | One vehicle door to door, stops on your schedule | Highway status, especially November to March |
| You travel between December and February | Fly or take the train | The district page flags NH-44 for snow and landslides from November to March, and the Mughal Road usually closes for the winter | Weather and road status the day before |
| You are continuing to Ladakh | Fly or train to Srinagar, then the Leh road when it is open | The district pages give 434 km and say the Srinagar–Leh road typically opens in May. They give 9 to 10 hours of driving, while our own pages say about 14 to 16 hours and split it over two days with a night in Kargil | Opening date, and whether you want one day or two: our Srinagar to Ladakh taxi options |
Katra and Vaishno Devi: combining the shrine with Kashmir
Katra is the base for the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage and a stop on the Srinagar train. Sources put it 42 to 49 km from Jammu (Wikipedia gives 42 and 49 on different pages, and an older J&K Tourism page says 48 km), and Katra station is 78 km from Jammu Tawi by rail. The New Delhi–Katra Vande Bharat has run since 3 October 2019 (Wikipedia). If you break your trip at Katra, budget for the train fare above and a night's stay. TDI helps with ground services; yatra registration and tickets are handled by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, not by TDI. Our Katra Vaishno Devi rooms page and the Vaishno Devi page have the practical details.
Your arrival day in Srinagar: a simple plan
- Before you leave, send us your flight or train number and arrival time. Our Srinagar airport taxi page says the driver waits at arrivals with a name board and that we track the flight and share the driver's contact details before you land.
- From the airport to the city is 12 to 15 km and normally 25 to 35 minutes by road. Pre-paid taxis and cab services are available outside the arrivals terminal (district page).
- If you arrive by train, Srinagar station is at Nowgam, about 8 km from Lal Chowk (Wikipedia). Give us the train number so the driver is at the station, not the airport.
- Check in and rest. If you land early, keep the first day light: the longer hill drives to Gulmarg and Pahalgam come on the following days.
- In the afternoon, visit a Mughal garden and take a shikara ride on Dal Lake. This is how the first day of our 3-night, 4-day Kashmir package is laid out: airport pickup, houseboat check-in, Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh, and a 1-hour shikara ride.
- From day two, head up to Gulmarg. See our Gulmarg guide, the Gulmarg gondola guide and the 5-night, 6-day package with a Gulmarg stay.
How many days do you need, including travel?
Count the travel first. A nonstop flight from Delhi uses part of one day each way. The Jammu route adds most of a day: reach Jammu Tawi, then 4 hours 45 minutes by train or 6 to 10 hours by road. Driving from Delhi takes 15 to 18 hours on the district page, so it needs a night stop each way.
On the ground, our shortest package that covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam is 3 nights and 4 days (the Quick Getaway). The 4-night, 5-day Classic adds Sonmarg, which makes it 4 nights and 5 days. Add a night at Katra if you are visiting the shrine, and plan the month using our month-by-month guide to visiting Kashmir in 2026.
Where do the sources disagree?

Opening: May (Srinagar page), May to November or December (Leh page), early June to mid-November (Wikipedia, in the past tense) | About 422 to 434 km; typically open from May or June until November or December, depending on snow, so ask us to check before you plan it |
| Nonstops from Kolkata, Bengaluru and Pune | Listed by the district page (and, for Kolkata and Bengaluru, by Wikipedia); route listings on 25 October 2026 said none were running then | Check your date |
What should you check before you travel?
- Flights: the airline's own schedule for your date. The Airports Authority of India page for Srinagar airport carries the airport's contact details.
- Trains: IRCTC and NTES when you book and again the day before; helpline 139. Remember there is no Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat on Tuesdays.
- Roads: the Traffic Control Unit for the highway you will use, and the J&K Traffic Police advisories, especially from November to March.
- Advisories: governments and the railway change their guidance. We keep a dated briefing in Is Kashmir safe to visit now?.
- Luggage: baggage limits vary by airline and fare, so read your airline's rules for your ticket before you pack; we do not quote a number.
- Identity: carry the government photo ID you booked with.

Questions travellers ask
Can I reach Kashmir from Delhi by train?
Yes, in two steps; we found no through timetable in the sources we checked on 25 October 2026. The Srinagar district page labels a Vande Bharat 'New Delhi Srinagar (via USBRL)' but gives no train number or timetable, so check IRCTC for your date. Take the New Delhi–Katra Vande Bharat (about 8 hours 20 minutes on Wikipedia) or any train to Jammu Tawi, then the Vande Bharat to Srinagar. The flight takes about 1 hour 30 minutes, so we suggest flying from Delhi and keeping the train for the scenery or for a Vaishno Devi stop.
Is there a direct train to Srinagar?
Yes, from Jammu Tawi. The Vande Bharat has run from Jammu Tawi to Srinagar since late April 2026, about 267 to 269 km in roughly 4 hours 45 minutes to 4 hours 50 minutes, six days a week with no Tuesday service according to the launch report. From Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata, the routes we can document first reach Jammu Tawi or Katra. A third pair of trains was approved on 20 August 2026 without timings.
What is the Vande Bharat to Srinagar and what does it cost?
It is a 20-coach air-conditioned train with chair car and executive chair car classes, fitted with heating systems and heated windshields, which DD News/IANS described as designed for extreme winter conditions. At launch in June 2025 the Katra–Srinagar fare was ₹715 in the chair car and ₹1,320 in executive class. We found no published Jammu Tawi fare, so check IRCTC, and book early: seats were sold out for ten days in June 2025.
What is the cheapest way to reach Kashmir?
It depends on where you start and when you book. A route listing on 25 October 2026 showed Delhi to Srinagar one-way flights usually at ₹4,654 to ₹6,967. The Katra–Srinagar train cost ₹715 or ₹1,320 at launch, but you must first reach Katra. We found no sourced bus or shared-taxi fares, so we do not quote them. Compare your own dates on airline and IRCTC pages.
What is the easiest way for a family to reach Kashmir?
For most families with children or grandparents, a nonstop flight to Srinagar keeps the day short: about 1 hour 30 minutes from Delhi. If you are already in Jammu, the Vande Bharat avoids the hill road at about 4 hours 45 minutes. Choose a daytime arrival, keep the first evening light, and avoid the road in winter, when landslides and snow can affect NH-44.
How many days do I need for Kashmir including travel?
Plan four to six days on the ground for the classic circuit. Our shortest package that covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam is 3 nights and 4 days, and adding Sonmarg makes it 4 nights and 5 days. A flight uses part of a day each way, the Jammu train or road adds most of a day, and driving from Delhi, 15 to 18 hours on the district page, needs a night stop.
How can I reach Kashmir from Kolkata?
Fly. Sources disagree on whether a nonstop is on sale for your date, so check; connecting flights through Delhi are listed at about 5 hours 10 minutes to 12 hours in total. By train you would reach Jammu Tawi or Katra and change to the Vande Bharat; we do not publish those long-distance timetables, so use IRCTC. Our Kolkata page covers flight connectivity and packages from your city.
Is the Jammu–Srinagar road open in winter?
Sometimes it is disrupted. The district page describes the 8.5 km Banihal–Qazigund tunnel as open throughout the year, but it also says landslides or snowfall can affect NH-44, particularly in winter (November to March). Nobody can promise it will be clear on your date, so check the Traffic Control Unit that morning and plan a flight or the train for winter trips.
How do I get from Srinagar airport to a Dal Lake houseboat?
The airport is 12 to 15 km from the city and the district page gives 25 to 35 minutes by road in normal traffic. Houseboats moor on the lake, and our houseboat page lists complimentary shikara rides between the houseboat and the shore, so expect to cover the last stretch by boat. Send us your boat's name when you book and ask the planning desk to confirm the pickup point and the shikara arrangement for that boat.
