Which Ladakh package fits you?

Every figure below is copied from the package's own price table, per person on twin sharing, and the price falls as the group grows. The list runs from a short circuit to a long expedition, so choose by the days you have and the places you want.

Most packages begin when you land at Leh airport and a representative takes you to your hotel. Discover Ladakh begins at Srinagar and drives east. What do the packages include, and what do you pay separately?

These lines come from our package pages. Ask us to write down what your quote covers, and note that extra sightseeing beyond the itinerary is charged separately.

How do we handle altitude and the first days?

Leh sits at about 3,500 m, so we never start with a hard day. Every plan opens with a rest day at the hotel and a gentle afternoon in Leh. The floor of Nubra Valley is lower than Leh, although the road to it crosses a high pass, while Pangong is higher, at about 4,350 m, and Hanle and Tsomoriri are higher still, so we put them later in the trip, once your body has had time to adjust.

• Keep the first day free, walk slowly, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol until you feel settled.
• Tell the driver at once about a headache, nausea, breathlessness or unusual drowsiness; do not hide it to keep to the plan.
• Fitness does not decide who gets symptoms, and children and older travellers need extra care.
• Talk to your doctor before you book if you have a heart, lung or blood-pressure condition, or if you are pregnant.

Do you need permits and ID?

Leh and the monasteries near it are visited on photo ID. Areas near the border, such as Nubra Valley and Pangong, need permission, and our package pages list the permit fees as included. Send full names and ID details exactly as printed when you book, not on the road. Rules differ for Indian and foreign nationals and can change, so we confirm yours. What should you pack?

• Layers, a windproof jacket, a warm cap and gloves, even in summer, since the nights and the passes are cold.
• Sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm, because the sun at altitude is strong and the air is dry.
• Sturdy shoes, a refillable bottle, motion-sickness tablets if bends upset you and your regular medicines.
• Cash, because cash machines are scarce outside Leh, and a power bank, because signal and charging can be patchy.
