This Kargil War Memorial tour package adds a historically significant leg to the classic Ladakh circuit — a drive to Drass, the “second coldest inhabited place on Earth,” to visit the Vijay Smarak war memorial honoring soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War. En route, you’ll pass through the ancient monastery circuit of Alchi, Likir and Basgo, and the surreal, eroded terrain of Lamayuru’s “Moon Land.” Over 7 nights / 8 days, the itinerary also covers Nubra Valley, the Balti village of Turtuk, and an overnight stay at Pangong Lake.
It’s a strong pick for travellers who want their Ladakh trip to include a meaningful stop at a site of real national significance, alongside the region’s classic landscapes.

The Vijay Smarak memorial in Drass honors Indian soldiers who fought in the 1999 Kargil War. It includes a museum with weapons, photographs and personal accounts from the conflict, along with a memorial wall listing the names of soldiers who lost their lives.
Lamayuru sits amid dramatic, eroded rock formations that resemble a lunar landscape, formed by an ancient lakebed. It’s one of the most visually striking stops on the Leh-Kargil route and home to one of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries.
Ladakh, including the Leh-Kargil route, is accessible roughly June through September, when the Srinagar-Leh and Leh-Manali highways are open and snow-free.
Leh sits at approximately 3,500m, so Day 1 is deliberately kept light for acclimatization. We recommend staying hydrated and informing your guide of any symptoms — our team is experienced in managing high-altitude travel throughout this route.
