How do you stay well at altitude in Leh?

- Keep the first day free: walk slowly, drink plenty of water and eat lightly.
- Ask whether the hotel has oxygen support; many keep cylinders or concentrators for guests.
- Ask a doctor before you travel if you have a heart, lung or blood-pressure condition.
- Go up in steps: sleep in Leh first, because Pangong is higher still, at about 4,350 m, and comes after your Leh nights.
When do Leh hotels open?
The main season runs roughly from June to September, when the passes are open and flights and roads are busy. Many hotels close in the cold months, from about November to March, and only a few stay open. Nights are cold even in summer, so ask about the heater whatever the month.
