Both Kashmir and Ladakh are stunning. But they are profoundly different. Here is how to choose.
Landscape
Kashmir is emerald green — pine forests, meadows, gardens, lakes. Ladakh is a cold desert — barren mountains, turquoise lakes, stark passes.
Best Time to Visit
Kashmir: March to November (9 months). Ladakh: June to September (4 months).
Accessibility
Kashmir is accessible by road and flight from Delhi. Ladakh requires a flight (or a 2-day road trip from Manali/Leh).
Accommodation
Kashmir has 5-star resorts, heritage houseboats, luxury camps. Ladakh has good hotels and basic camps — luxury is limited.
Activities
Kashmir: shikara rides, gondola, pony treks, garden walks, wazwan. Ladakh: high passes, monastery tours, camel safari, stargazing, river rafting.
Altitude
Kashmir: 1,500m–2,700m — no altitude concerns. Ladakh: 3,500m–5,600m — altitude acclimatisation required.
The Verdict
Short on time? Pick Kashmir. Love adventure and barren beauty? Pick Ladakh. Have 10+ days? Do both — our Grand Circuit covers both valleys.
