Bengali travellers share a deep cultural connection with Kashmir. From Tagore’s poems about the valley to the classic Bengali honeymoon destination, Kashmir holds a special place in every Bengali’s heart.

Flight Connectivity

Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport operates direct flights to Srinagar with IndiGo and SpiceJet. Flight time is approximately 3 hours. Connecting flights via Delhi are also available. Round-trip fares start from ₹8,500.

Best Season

Summer (April-June) is the most popular season for Bengali travellers. The autumn colours (October-November) attract many photographers from Kolkata. Winter (December-February) is preferred by younger couples seeking snow.

Cultural Connection

Bengal’s literary romance with Kashmir runs deep. Tagore’s Shyamali and the countless Bengali films shot in the valley create an emotional pull. Kashmiri cuisine, particularly the biryani and kebabs, appeals to Bengali food lovers. Many Bengali travellers also enjoy Srinagar’s old-world charm, reminiscent of North Kolkata’s heritage.

Bengali-Friendly Services

TDI Holiday Ventures provides Bengali-speaking guides, Bengali meal options including fish preparations, and itineraries designed for the Bengali travel style. Our team understands the specific preferences of our Kolkata guests.

Getting from Kolkata to Srinagar

Kolkata has air links to Srinagar, some direct and some through Delhi, and the journey takes a few hours with a connection. Flights fill in October during the Puja holidays and in the summer months, so book early and keep the connection comfortable. Allow a buffer for fog and weather on winter days, and arrive in Srinagar in daylight where you can. Trains and road options are very long, and most travellers fly both ways.

When Kolkata travellers go

October is a favourite, because the Puja holidays coincide with the chinar colour and crisp weather; the best hotels and houseboats are booked weeks ahead. April to June is the classic summer escape, and December to February appeals to those who want to see snow, which many Kolkata travellers have never done. July and August are wetter and quieter. If your leave is fixed, ask us how the season affects what is open, such as the gondola or the road to Sonmarg.

What travellers from Kolkata usually ask for

Travellers from Kolkata tend to be curious and unhurried: they like markets, food, tea and conversation, and they ask about local culture and crafts as much as about scenery. Families and groups are common, and many ask for a slow plan with plenty of photography time. Kashmiri dishes, fresh trout and bakery bread are a pleasure; vegetarian and fish-eating guests both find good choices, and we can ask hotels to adjust spice levels. Honeymooners often want a houseboat night and a private shikara.

A plan that fits a Kolkata schedule

A six-night plan might spend two nights in Srinagar, one in Gulmarg, two in Pahalgam and a final night in Srinagar for shopping and a slow departure. With seven nights, add a spare day or an extra valley day. Keep the first day light after the journey, and book one rest evening. If you travel in winter, add margin for snow, and keep your first and last days in Srinagar. Our Kashmir 7-day itinerary and honeymoon itinerary show worked plans.

Packages that suit this trip

Kolkata travellers often take a longer break and prefer a plan with a slower pace, a houseboat night and an extra valley day.

Prices are the lowest cell in each package's own price table, per person for two travellers sharing, from Srinagar, as printed on the package page; they change with group size, season and hotel tier, and we confirm the final amount in writing before you pay. Flights are not included.

Practical notes for travellers from Kolkata

Kolkata's climate is mild in winter, so Kashmir's cold is the main change: pack thermals, a down jacket, waterproof boots, gloves and a woollen cap from November to February, and warm layers for evenings in other months. Carry ID for every traveller and cash for small purchases. Mobile prepaid connections from other states may not work in Jammu and Kashmir, so ask your operator. Take a camera or a good phone and a power bank, since cold drains batteries.

A slow trip suits Kolkata travellers

Many guests from Kolkata like to linger: a long lunch, a walk through a market, a talk with a shopkeeper about the shawl in front of them. Kashmir rewards that style. Build in a free afternoon in Srinagar for the old city and the craft workshops, and consider our handicrafts shopping guide before you buy. Photography is a pleasure here, so keep early mornings free for the lake and the gardens.

Puja season planning

If you travel around Puja, book early, since this is one of the busiest weeks of the year for Kashmir hotels and flights. The weather is crisp, the chinars are turning and the light is excellent, but evenings are cold, so carry warm layers. Ask us about festival timings at the places you will visit, and we adjust the plan so that you can enjoy both the trip and the occasion.

How booking works

Tell us your dates, the number of travellers, any food preferences and the style of stay. We suggest a plan, confirm the hotels, the vehicle and the inclusions in writing and keep a margin for weather. Flights are booked separately by you, and we fit the land plan to your arrival and departure times.
