We do not print nightly rates on this page because they change with the season, the room type and the meal plan, and a rate that was right last month can be wrong for your dates. When are Kashmir hotels busiest?
- Spring: the tulip weeks bring crowds to Srinagar; see Kashmir in April.
- Summer: the meadows are at their busiest, especially in the school-holiday weeks of May and June, so book early.
- Autumn: October brings clear skies and chinar colour, and good rooms go early.

Which area is best to stay in Kashmir for a first trip?
Most first trips use Srinagar as the base for two or three nights, then add Gulmarg and Pahalgam for a night each. Sonmarg is often a day trip. Choose by what you want: lake and gardens in Srinagar, meadows and the gondola in Gulmarg, river walks in Pahalgam.
Should I book a houseboat or a hotel?
A houseboat gives you the lake and a classic Kashmiri stay, while a hotel gives more space, a wider menu and usually easier access. Many travellers book one night on a houseboat and the rest in hotels. Our houseboat or hotel guide compares them.
Do Kashmir hotels have heating in winter?
Many do have room heaters or central heating, but it differs by property and room, so ask what heats your room and the bathroom before you book. We confirm this in writing for the hotels we propose.
Do I have to pay in advance?
Terms differ by hotel and by season, and many properties ask for an advance in busy weeks. We state the payment and cancellation terms for your hotel before you pay.
How far ahead should I book?
Book as soon as your dates are fixed for May and June, October and the Gulmarg snow weeks. In quieter months a few weeks ahead is usually comfortable, but good rooms in popular places can still go early.
