This guide is for travellers from the United Kingdom and opens with the official advice, because that matters more than any itinerary. After it come the dated flight facts for London, the Indian e-Visa portal's position on eligibility, next year's England and Wales bank holidays, a weather comparison with Britain and the per-person cost of a TDI Holiday Ventures land package. We plan from Srinagar, which is why a package starts at your landing airport there. Every page was read in a single sitting (checked 4 November 2026).

What does the UK government advise about Jammu and Kashmir?

According to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office's India page, still current at 4 November 2026 and updated on 7 October 2026, the advice is against any travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The page lists the city of Srinagar, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg, and makes exceptions for air travel into and out of Jammu city and for journeys inside it. It adds that your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against FCDO advice. Canada's government page tells readers to avoid all travel to the territory, giving the unpredictable security situation as the reason.

TDI cannot change that advice and does not play it down. Read the whole FCDO page, check your policy wording, and put the question to your insurer in writing (is a Kashmir trip covered?) before paying for anything; the decision is yours. Our safety page sets out the advisories from the UK, Canada, the United States, Australia and India, and nothing on this page is a guarantee of safety.

How do you fly from the UK to Srinagar?

On Skyscanner's UK site no airline flies London to Srinagar direct; the lowest one-stop fare is £514, the cheapest flight found £294 and next month's returns start at £620, with February named as the cheapest month. Those are the low end, not typical fares. Expect a direct flight to India followed by a second flight north.

London to Mumbai, direct165 flights a week9 h 25 min£206
London to Amritsar, direct4 flights a week10 h£235
London to SrinagarNo direct flight-£294

Amritsar deserves a look: Skyscanner shows Air India flying direct from London to Amritsar, and Momondo lists direct Amritsar to Srinagar flights Monday to Saturday, 50 min at the fastest, detailed on our Amritsar page. Delhi and Mumbai have the most frequent service, and the Delhi page and Mumbai page cover the second leg. Keep a long margin between flights and send us your times so the first day is planned around them.

Can UK passport holders use the Indian e-Visa?

UK passports are listed as eligible for the e-Visa on the official portal. The e-Tourist visa comes in three lengths, five years, 365 days (one year) or 30 days (one month), and foreigners and OCI card holders complete the e-Arrival card online at any time in the 72 hours before they arrive. Fees and rules change; the portal on the day you apply is the reference for the fee, the processing time and the documents, and you should apply only through it.

When should you travel from the UK?

GOV.UK says school term and holiday dates in England and Wales vary, so check your local council's calendar. The England and Wales bank holidays for next year include Good Friday on 26 March, Easter Monday on 29 March, the early May bank holiday on 3 May, the spring bank holiday on 31 May and the summer bank holiday on 30 August. The weather is the other half of the decision.

MonthLondon (Heathrow), average daily maximumSrinagar, average daily maximum
January8.4 °C7.1 °C
April15.0 °C20.6 °C
July23.9 °C30.0 °C
October15.8 °C23.0 °C

In the table Srinagar's daily highs are above London's in April, July and October, while January is cold by day in both cities. Read Kashmir in April, Kashmir in January and Kashmir in autumn, and take kit from the packing list.

What does a Kashmir trip cost for UK travellers?

A TDI land package pays for deluxe room nights, local taxes, the Shikara ride on Dal Lake, two meals a day and private-vehicle transfers (the Srinagar airport pickup and drop are part of them); flights, lunches and entry fees are on top. TDI's rupee prices are per person and unconverted to pounds, so use the rate on the day you pay.

PackageTwo travellersFour travellersSix travellers
4N/5D Kashmir Classic₹13,800₹10,650₹9,490
5N/6D Kashmir Explorer₹15,900₹12,400₹11,320

6N/7D Kashmir with Doodhpathri₹18,200₹14,390₹12,910

Every price is per person. Only the Doodhpathri package has a listing that may be seasonal, so ask about its rate on your dates. The overview's lowest price is ₹8,550 per person, and WhatsApp returns availability and your exact rate before you commit; Kashmir trip cost widens the budget.

How many days do you need from the UK?

The long-haul flight and the onward leg are part of the trip. Allow a rest day if you can, and plan at least five nights on the ground. The 4N/5D Classic is our starting point; the 5N/6D Explorer brings a houseboat night at the end, the 5N/6D Gulmarg Stay a stay close to Gulmarg, and the longest of the four is the 6N/7D Doodhpathri plan.

Food and who the packages suit

Package prices include a morning and an evening meal but no lunch. Mention your diet at the enquiry; the vegetarian, vegan, Jain and halal guide sets out what to ask the kitchen. A couple can open the honeymoon packages, a family the family packages and parents travelling together the senior citizen packages. Other departure points: Kashmir tour packages by city.

Questions travellers ask

Does the UK government advise against travel to Kashmir?

Yes. The FCDO's current India page advises against any travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, listing Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg, and warns that travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice (updated 7 October 2026; checked 4 November 2026).

Is there a direct flight from London to Srinagar?

No. Skyscanner shows no airline flying London to Srinagar direct and lists one-stop flights from £514 (checked 4 November 2026). The common pattern is a direct flight to Delhi, Mumbai or Amritsar, then a second flight.

How much is a flight from the UK to Srinagar?

On Skyscanner's UK page the cheapest flight found is £294 and next month's returns start at £620 (checked 4 November 2026). Try your own dates, since prices change.

Do UK citizens need a visa for Kashmir?

The Indian e-Visa portal's eligibility list includes the United Kingdom. The e-Tourist visa is available for five years, 365 days (one year) or 30 days (one month), and the e-Arrival card is filed in the 72 hours before arrival. Fees and processing times are on the portal.

When should UK travellers go to Kashmir?

It depends on the season. London's average daily maximum is 23.9 °C in July against 30.0 °C in Srinagar. January is cold in both, but the advice and your insurance come first, whatever the month.

How long should a UK visitor stay in Kashmir?

Five nights on the ground is the least we would plan, because the long-haul and onward flights eat several days. Within that, the 4N/5D Classic still reaches Srinagar, Sonmarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam; longer plans add nights.

Does the TDI package include flights from the UK?

No, flights are not in the price. The package covers deluxe-room stays, a Shikara ride on Dal Lake, taxes, two meals a day and transfers by private vehicle, including the Srinagar airport pickup and drop. Budget for airfare and lunches separately.
