When are the light and the season right?

Soft light comes in the first couple of hours after sunrise and the last couple before sunset, while midday sun is hard and flat. Season sets the colour: tulips and blossom in March and April, green meadows from May, showers and soft cloud in July and August, chinar gold in October and November, and snow from December. Our April guide and autumn guide show what each month looks like. Weather moves a shoot, so we keep a spare slot.

How does a shoot run, step by step?

  1. Tell us the type of shoot, your dates, a wish list of locations, the number of people and whether you want video, through our contact page.
  2. We suggest locations and a time plan, including the drive between them. Keep it to two or three places, because each move costs light and energy.
  3. We confirm the photographer, the package length, the number of edited photos, any outfits and any permission, in writing.
  4. On the day we meet at a set time, shoot with breaks and keep a rain plan.
  5. Edited photos arrive by the date in your quote. Our page gives a delivery window after the shoot, and we put the date in writing.

What should you wear and bring?

  • Our page says we can arrange traditional Kashmiri attire, including a pheran and jewellery, at extra cost. Tell us sizes early.
  • Two or three outfits in colours that stand out against the setting: strong colours against snow or green, softer tones against the lake.
  • Warm layers to wear under outfits, because spring and autumn mornings are cold. Our packing list covers each season.
  • Comfortable shoes for walking between sets, water, snacks and a power bank. Our page does not list a stylist or makeup artist, so ask what we can arrange.

What about video, drones and permissions?

Our page says we offer videography, including cinematic wedding films, highlight reels and drone video. Drones need permission in Kashmir, and our drone rental page says we give guidance on no-fly zones and permit requirements. Our tulip page says professional photography and drones at the tulip garden need special permission, so tell us early if either is in your plan. Some gardens, heritage sites and hotels have their own rules or fees for professional shoots, and we confirm them for your locations before you pay.

How is a shoot priced, and what should the quote list?

Packages run by length, and the price also depends on locations, outfits and video, so we do not print a figure here. We confirm it on WhatsApp before you pay. A good quote lists the photographer and any assistant, the length, the number of edited photos and their resolution, the delivery date, outfit extras, and entry fees, the shikara and the vehicle as separate lines. It also says what happens if rain stops the shoot.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a photoshoot in Kashmir cost?

It depends on the length, the locations, the outfits and whether you want video or a drone, so we do not print one figure. Send your plan and we send a written quote with each part as its own line: the photographer, entry fees, the shikara and the vehicle. We confirm it on WhatsApp before you pay.

Which location should I choose for a pre-wedding shoot?

Choose by the look you want: Dal Lake with a shikara for water and mountains, the Mughal gardens for terraces and fountains, Gulmarg for meadow or snow, Pahalgam for river and forest. Season changes the picture, so tell us your dates. We suggest two or three locations, not more, to protect the light.

Which months look good in photographs?

Spring brings tulips and blossom, May and June bring green meadows, October and November bring chinar gold, and winter brings snow in Gulmarg. Each has a trade-off: crowds in tulip weeks, cold in winter and showers in July. Tell us the look you want and we suggest a month and keep a spare slot.

Do I need permission for a shoot, a drone or video?

Personal photography in public places is usually fine, but professional shoots, drones and large crews can need permission or a fee, and rules change by site. Our tulip page says professional photography and drones there need special permission. Tell us your plan, and we confirm the rules and costs before you pay.

Can you arrange Kashmiri outfits?

Our page says we can arrange traditional Kashmiri attire, including a pheran and jewellery, at additional cost. Tell us sizes and the look you want, and we confirm what is available, the extra charge and how it reaches you on the day. Bring warm layers for under the outfit, because mornings are cold.

How many photos will I get, and when?

Our page says packages include edited high-resolution digital photos, and the number depends on the package. It also gives a delivery window after the shoot. We put the number of edited photos and the delivery date in your written quote, so you know both before you pay. Ask whether raw files are included.
