Vaishno Devi Helicopter Booking: Official Portal, Fares and Rules
This page is for the moment you have decided to fly the Katra to Sanjichhat sector on the way to the Vaishno Devi shrine and want to know where the ticket is sold, what it costs, what the rules are and how to avoid the fake sites. We are the TDI Holiday Ventures planning desk in Srinagar. The ticket comes from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, not from us and not from any agent. What we add is the planning around it: a room in Katra, the transfers, and, if you want to continue to Kashmir, the rest of the trip. On 25 October 2026 we re-read each source named below, and we mark which figures are the operator's, which are press reports and where they disagree. We did not log in to the Shrine Board portal or enter its booking flow, so we describe the flow only as the other sources describe it.
Key facts
Last verified 25 October 2026
- Official seller
- Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The buttons on its home page (maavaishnodevi.org) open its online services portal, online.maavaishnodevi.org. The helicopter operator's own pages tell the public to buy only from the Shrine Board and say operators may not sell even one ticket. We did not sign in or enter the booking flow
- Route
- Katra helipad to Sanjichhat helipad and back; the operator gives the flight as 4 minutes. Sanjichhat is a plateau about 2.5 km short of the shrine (Bhawan) on the Shrine Board's description, so the helicopter does not land at the shrine
- Fares in the operator's table, 16 October 2025 to 15 October 2026
- ₹2,320 one way; ₹4,640 return (same-day or next-day return). The page says the return rates include GST and prints no GST note for the one-way fare. A second page on the same site, at a lowercase address, prints ₹1,830 and ₹3,660 with no validity dates; it is probably an earlier fare
- Fares reported from 1 November 2026
- ₹2,700 one way and ₹5,400 return, a 16.4 per cent rise, in a PTI report in The Tribune dated 7 September 2026. The report names no authority and carries no Shrine Board statement, so the portal's fare on your booking date is the one that counts. We found no published fare for travel between 16 and 31 October 2026: the operator's table ended on 15 October and the reported new fare starts on 1 November
- Booking window (operator's page)
- Online booking opens exactly 60 days before the travel date at 10 am every day and runs up to 4 days before travel. Current (same-day) tickets are sold at the Shrine Board's counter at Niharika Bhawan, Katra
- Baggage and infants (operator's page)
- One piece of hand baggage up to 5 kg per passenger; infants below 2 years or 10 kg are carried free. No per-passenger weight limit is printed, and groups may be split across flights by weight
- Same-day return rule (operator's page)
- Report back at Sanjichhat within 3 hours of landing. Reporting time is not boarding time: boarding can be up to 1 hour after you report
- What TDI does and does not do
- TDI Holiday Ventures does not issue, hold or resell helicopter tickets. We plan the rooms in Katra, the transfers and the Kashmir trip around the ticket you buy from the Shrine Board
- Last checked
- 25 October 2026: Shrine Board pages, the operator's pages, and press reports dated 7 September to 22 October 2026
- Weather and delays
- The operator says its services depend on weather, that it is not liable for delays and that it provides no accommodation or meals; the Shrine Board's own rules sit behind its portal, which we did not enter
Where do you book Vaishno Devi helicopter tickets officially?
The seller is the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Its home page has a Travel card saying pilgrims can walk from Katra to the shrine or use helicopter or battery-car facilities, and a Book Tickets button that leads to the board's online services portal at online.maavaishnodevi.org. We could open that address on 25 October 2026, but our fetch returned only the page title, which suggests a single-page application; the home page's button points to its login route. We did not sign in.
The helicopter operator says the same thing in plain words. Himalayan Heli Services, which runs a Katra to Sanjichhat shuttle (its page is headed Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra), says on its own site that the public should buy helicopter tickets from the Shrine Board only, and that helicopter operators are not authorised to sell even a single ticket. The same site carries a notice dated 1 October 2023 about fake Kedarnath and Vaishno Devi tickets sold in its name, which tells pilgrims to book only through the authorised government portals. We did not find a list of operators on the Shrine Board pages we read, so we cannot say whether other companies fly the sector.
The ways to buy, as the sources describe them:
- Online, in advance. Open www.maavaishnodevi.org yourself and follow its Book Tickets button, or type online.maavaishnodevi.org. The operator says online booking on the Shrine Board website opens exactly 60 days before the date of travel at 10 am every day and can be made up to 4 days before travel.
- At the counter, for current tickets. The operator says current (same-day) tickets are sold at the Shrine Board's counter at Niharika Bhawan in Katra. The Shrine Board's own pages put its Enquiry and Reservation counter at Shakti Bhawan, Niharika Complex, near the bus stand. We could not confirm the counter's hours or how many seats are left on a busy day.
- By phone, for questions rather than payment. The Shrine Board's FAQ page prints a toll-free number (18001807212) and an Online Services line (01991-232887, office hours 10 am to 5 pm). Copy numbers from the official site, not from an advert, and do not pay anyone over a chat.
The operator says no agent or helicopter operator is authorised to sell these tickets, and police advise booking only through authorised providers and official websites. TDI does not issue, hold or resell Shrine Board helicopter tickets. After a man was arrested in Katra on 14 October 2026 for allegedly taking money for hotel rooms and tour packages and issuing bills in a travel firm's name without its authorisation, police advised pilgrims to book hotels, helicopter tickets and tour packages only through authorised service providers and official websites, and to check an agent's credentials before paying (Daily Excelsior, 21 October 2026; The Tribune, 22 October 2026). Neither report says he sold helicopter tickets.
How can you tell the official portal from a look-alike?
Search results for this topic include many sites that look official and are not. We did not catalogue them and we name none. The sources we read give a short set of signs you can check yourself.
| Sign | What the sources say | What we suggest |
|---|---|---|
| The address | The Shrine Board's site is maavaishnodevi.org and its booking portal is online.maavaishnodevi.org; the home page's own buttons point there. The operator warns that scammers use look-alike domain names, email IDs and company names. | Read the address bar letter by letter before you type anything. Reach the portal from the Shrine Board's home page, not from an advert or a forwarded link. |
| Who contacts you | The operator says imposters and cybercriminals approach people on social media, pose as company employees and show fake photo IDs. | Treat anyone who approaches you first, especially on social media, as unverified; the operator says imposters do this. Buy only through the Shrine Board portal reached from its own home page. |
| How you are asked to pay | The operator's fraud-caution page says fake sellers give out bank account numbers to pay into; its home page says it never confirms bookings or asks for payment through WhatsApp. | As our own rule of thumb, not a Shrine Board statement: do not send money to a personal UPI ID or bank account for a ticket. |
| Agents and packages | Police described a man who allegedly issued bills in a travel firm's name without authorisation (arrest on 14 October 2026). They advised checking an agent's credentials before paying. | Ask for the business's registered name, check it independently, and pay a hotel or tour company only against a proper bill in that company's name. |
| The operator's own role | The operator's page says it has no booking rights for helicopter tickets at the shrine, and that advance booking is on the Shrine Board website. | If someone says they can sell you a seat at the operator's rate, ask the Shrine Board before you pay. |
| If you have already paid a fake seller | The operator's fraud-caution page directs victims to the national cyber crime portal, cybercrime.gov.in, or to local police. | Keep the payment proof, report it at once, and tell your bank. |
One more free check: the Shrine Board's home page links its official mobile app (on Google Play and the Apple App Store) and its X account, @OfficialSMVDSB, and its Do's and Don'ts page tells pilgrims to follow announcements from the board's website, helplines and verified social media. We did not install the app. The Do's and Don'ts page also warns against relying on unverified information or social media forwards, and the operator says fake sellers approach people on social media.
What does the Vaishno Devi helicopter cost?
Four sets of figures are in circulation. We list each with its source and date, or say it has none. None is a TDI price, and the fare shown on the portal on the day you book is the one that counts.
| Source and date | One way | Return | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operator's Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra page, fare table 'applicable from October 16, 2025, to October 15, 2026' (read 25 October 2026) | ₹2,320 | ₹4,640 | Katra to Sanjichhat or back. Same-day and next-day return cost the same. The page notes that return rates include GST. |
| A second page on the operator's site, at a lowercase address (read 25 October 2026) | ₹1,830 | ₹3,660 | No validity dates; the only date is a 2025 copyright line. It is probably an earlier fare, so we use it for nothing. |
| PTI report in The Tribune, 7 September 2026 | ₹2,700 | ₹5,400 | Described as a 16.4 per cent increase effective 1 November 2026. The report names no authority that set it and carries no Shrine Board comment; it gives the earlier fares as ₹2,320 and ₹4,640. |
| Wikivoyage Katra page (the entry says 'as on 23/02/2012') | ₹699 | Not given | Shows how stale figures survive online. Ignore it for planning. |
The dates leave a gap. The operator's table ran to 15 October 2026 and the reported new fare starts on 1 November, so we cannot say what the fare is for travel between 16 and 31 October; the portal will show it. For travel on or after 1 November, plan on the higher figures until the portal shows otherwise. A return ticket is exactly twice a one-way ticket in each pair of figures above, so a return buys you no discount.
Our own arithmetic for a group, for passengers aged 2 or over (infants below 2 years or 10 kg are carried free, per the operator). It uses the two fare sets above and adds nothing for rooms or transfers.
| Passengers | Return at ₹4,640 each | Return at the reported ₹5,400 each | One sector at ₹2,320 or ₹2,700 each |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ₹4,640 | ₹5,400 | ₹2,320 or ₹2,700 |
| 2 | ₹9,280 | ₹10,800 | ₹4,640 or ₹5,400 |
| 4 | ₹18,560 | ₹21,600 | ₹9,280 or ₹10,800 |
| 6 | ₹27,840 | ₹32,400 | ₹13,920 or ₹16,200 |
The operator's pages show no child fare between the ages of 2 and 12; they print only the infant rule and a liability cap that changes at age 12 (see the rules section). Ask the portal how children are priced before you plan a family budget.
A private charter is a different product. The operator's charter page, undated and carrying a 2025 copyright line, offers a same-day Jammu airport to Sanjichhat and back charter for up to 6 passengers at ₹4,00,000 including tax, sold through the operator's own booking form and phone line. Its payment terms say both a 50 per cent deposit and 100 per cent advance payment, so ask the operator to settle which applies before paying. We have not verified that price against a second source.
What is the route, and how does the day work?
The sector is Katra helipad to Sanjichhat helipad and back. The Shrine Board's Sanji Chhat page describes a plateau about 2.5 km short of the shrine, where a new helipad made the Katra to Sanji Chhat helicopter service possible. The operator gives the flight as 4 minutes. From the helipad you walk to the Bhawan, the shrine complex: the operator says 2.5 km and 30 to 40 minutes on foot, and its charter page says roughly 20 to 40 minutes depending on fitness, with a pony or palki available at Sanjichhat. So the helicopter replaces the climb from Katra, not the walk at the top, and we found no statement that a helicopter ticket shortens the darshan queue.
The day as the operator's page describes it:
- On the day of the flight: the operator lists check-in at the Katra helipad and says reporting time is not boarding time; boarding can be up to 1 hour after you report. For the return it lists check-in at the Sanjichhat helipad and says the reporting time for the return flight is issued at the Katra helipad. Its page does not say how the outbound reporting time is given, so ask when you book. Do not book a train or taxi that leaves a tight margin.
- The flight and the walk: about 4 minutes in the air, then about 2.5 km on foot to the Bhawan.
- Darshan: the operator's page says darshan takes about 45 minutes. The Shrine Board's Climate and Clothing page (dated 9 September 2023 on the site) says that in peak periods devotees often wait 12 to 20 hours before darshan. Those two statements cannot both describe a peak day, and we found nothing on what a helicopter ticket does for queue time. Ask the Shrine Board before you plan a tight schedule.
- The return: for a same-day return ticket the operator says you must report back at Sanjichhat within 3 hours of landing. A next-day return ticket costs the same, which suits pilgrims who stay a night up the hill; the Shrine Board lists accommodation at Bhawan, Adhkuwari and Sanjichhat, and the operator says Sanjichhat has no hotels, only rooms in guest houses managed by the Shrine Board.
When does booking open, and how far ahead can you book?
The operator's page says online booking on the Shrine Board website can be done at most 60 days and at least 4 days before the travel date, and that it opens exactly 60 days ahead at 10 am every day. By our count, on 25 October 2026 that rule reached 24 December 2026. We could not check the rule on the portal itself. The Shrine Board's home page separately says the quota for its online services (rooms and similar) for December 2026 was released on 1 October 2026 at 10 am. We read that as a different quota from helicopter seats, but it shows that the board releases inventory on set dates.
When is it busy? The Shrine Board's registration page lists weekends in May and June, the second half of December, and school, college or office holiday blocks as peak periods. The Tribune reported between 39,951 and 48,400 pilgrims paying obeisance each day from 11 to 15 October 2026, the first five days of Navratri. If your dates fall in a peak period, we suggest booking as soon as that day's window opens, and keeping a second date in mind.
What are the rules on baggage, children, weight and ID?
| Topic | What the sources say | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Hand baggage | One piece of luggage of no more than 5 kg per passenger. | Operator's page |
| Infants | Infants below 2 years or 10 kg are carried free. If age is disputed, an age-proof certificate prevails. | Operator's page |
| Weight | No per-passenger weight limit is printed. Groups may be split across flights by weight because of the helicopter's load limits. The operator's charter page gives 450 kg as the maximum total weight for its charter helicopter, which is a different service. | Operator's pages |
| Carrier liability | The page prints a maximum carrier liability of ₹20,00,000 per passenger aged 12 or more and ₹10,00,000 for a passenger below 12, by age on the date of the accident. This is the operator's printed term, not insurance advice; read your ticket's terms. | Operator's page |
| ID and yatra registration | The operator refers passengers to Shrine Board instructions on ID. The Shrine Board's registration page says every pilgrim on the walking track needs a free RFID Yatra Access Card, issued at a registration counter near the Katra bus stand (a second counter is on Udhampur Road, about 1 km away); the card must be taken past the Banganga check post, about 1.5 km on, within 6 hours of issue, and pilgrims without one are turned back there. Its FAQ page says the free Yatra slip is available from the bus-stand counter between 6 am and 10 pm. None of these pages says whether helicopter passengers need the card, so ask when you book and carry the government photo ID you booked with. | Shrine Board pages; operator's page |
| Luggage storage | The Shrine Board says its cloak rooms in Katra guest houses and at the Bhawan (Gate No. 1 and Sridhar Bhawan) are free of charge. Its page does not mention helicopter passengers. | Shrine Board cloak-room page |
| Weather and delays | The operator says its services depend on weather, that it is not liable for delays and that it provides no accommodation or meals. The Shrine Board's own rules sit behind its portal, which we did not enter. | Operator's page; Shrine Board pages |
What to wear is set by the hill, not the helicopter. The operator says Katra gets as cold as Jammu or Delhi from November to March, and Sanjichhat can be sub-zero with heavy snowfall in December, January and February. The Shrine Board's climate page advises heavy woollens in winter, light woollens the rest of the year and footwear with flat soles for the track, and says blankets are provided free.
Helicopter, walking, battery car, pony or palki: which suits whom?
| Option | What the Shrine Board and the operator say | Suits | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helicopter, Katra to Sanjichhat | A 4-minute flight that lands about 2.5 km short of the shrine. ₹2,320 one way at the 2025 to 2026 table; booking opens 60 days ahead. | Pilgrims short of time or energy for the climb who can still manage a 30 to 40 minute walk, or hire a pony or palki at Sanjichhat. | Weather, the fare on the portal, and the return-time rule. |
| Walking the main track | The board's pony page gives the walk as 12 to 13 km; its distance table gives 13.0 km from Katra to the Bhawan. More than 5 km of the track is covered with rain shelters, and the board counts 120 water points between Banganga and the Bhawan. | Fit pilgrims. No ticket is needed beyond registration. | Heat from April to June, monsoon rain from July to October, and the peak crowds. |
| Alternate track | Opened to the public in 1999, 500 m shorter than the old track and gentler, from just below Adhkuwari to just short of the Bhawan. For pilgrims on foot; ponies are not allowed. | Walkers who want a lower gradient for the second half. | It joins the climb part-way, so it does not replace the first half. |
| Battery car | The board says a battery vehicle serves infirm, sick and handicapped devotees at Inderprastha (Adhkuwari) and Manokamna Bhawan, subject to availability. The Tribune (17 October 2026) reports free battery-car service for differently abled devotees. | Pilgrims who qualify under the board's rule. | It is not a general ticket, and availability varies. |
| Pony, palki or pithu | Operators are registered with the municipal committee and carry an identity card or token number. Rates are fixed and shown at assistance counters and on signboards; the board's page prints none, so we quote none. The Tribune (6 October 2026) reports tighter pony-rider verification. | Infirm or older pilgrims, and small children. | Pay only the posted rate and note the registration number. |
| Ropeway | The board describes only the Bhawan to Bhairon Ghati ropeway as operating, 9 am to 5 pm. A public notice on its site gives 4 February 2026 for a meeting of its High-Level Committee for the Ropeway Project with stakeholders from Katra. | After darshan, for the Bhairon temple. | We found no start date for a ropeway from Katra, so do not plan around one. |
What can stop or delay a flight?
Nobody can promise that a helicopter will fly on a given day, and none of the sources does. The operator says its services run 365 days a year, but they depend on weather: it describes heavy monsoon rain from July to October and heavy snowfall at Sanjichhat in December, January and February. The Shrine Board's Do's and Don'ts page tells pilgrims to reschedule when the India Meteorological Department or the district administration issues heavy-rain, cloudburst or landslide alerts, and its Plan a Yatra menu links a weather page on the IMD site.
Operations can also be disturbed on the ground. The Tribune reported that a fire at 3:15 am on 20 September 2026 damaged computers at the ticket counter and a coffee shop in the helipad terminal at Katra; officials said it was apparently a short circuit and no casualties were reported. The report does not say whether flights were affected. During Navratri, which began on 11 October in 2026, crowds are heavy: The Tribune reported 39,951 to 48,400 pilgrims a day from 11 to 15 October.
What we suggest, since we cannot promise the weather: keep one spare night between the helicopter day and any train or flight you cannot change, and keep the return ticket's 3-hour rule in mind when you plan the afternoon. On request we build that spare day into the plan.
What does TDI add to a Vaishno Devi helicopter trip?
We do not sell, hold or issue helicopter seats, and we do not run the Shrine Board portal. Three things around your ticket are ours to plan.
- A room in Katra. Our Katra Vaishno Devi rooms service offers hotel room booking in Katra for pilgrims. Rates change with the dates and the season, so tell us your dates and group size and we reply with current options. The Shrine Board also lets pilgrims reserve accommodation at Katra, Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat and Bhawan; its page lists dormitory beds at ₹150 a bed at Katra, Adhkuwari and Bhawan (page dated 9 September 2023), so confirm the rate with the board. If you want the board's rooms, book them with the board.
- Transfers. Katra is 42 to 50 km from Jammu depending on the source. The Shrine Board's FAQ says buses leave Jammu's general bus stand for Katra about every 15 minutes between 5:30 am and 8:30 pm, and another board page gives a frequency of 10 to 15 minutes, about 2 hours by bus and 70 to 80 minutes by taxi. For the Kashmir leg we run Jammu to Srinagar taxi transfers and Srinagar airport taxi pickups.
- The order of the days. The helicopter day has fixed windows (a reporting time, a 3-hour return rule), so we build the nights around it: an arrival evening in Katra, the helicopter and darshan day, and a buffer before you travel on.
For the pilgrimage itself, our Vaishno Devi destination page gives the overview. Your helicopter fare is paid to the Shrine Board's portal, separately from anything you pay TDI.
Can you combine Vaishno Devi with a Kashmir trip?
Yes, and the rail link has made it simpler. DD News reported on 7 June 2025 that the Vande Bharat between Srinagar and Katra had begun regular service and cut the journey to about three hours, against six to seven by road. The Kashmir Observer (PTI) reported on 29 April 2026 that a Vande Bharat from Jammu Tawi to Srinagar, around 267 km, was being flagged off, with public services from 2 May, six days a week in both directions and no service on Tuesdays. Timetables and fares change, so our guide to how to reach Kashmir keeps them dated, and IRCTC is the source when you book.
The three packages below start in Srinagar. Airfare and Gulmarg gondola tickets are excluded on each of their pages, and the train or taxi from Katra is separate. The prices below are copied from each package's own table, per person, by group size. The lowest per-person figure in the table is ₹8,100 (3 nights, 4 days Quick Getaway, 6 travellers); each price is as printed on its package page. A Katra night, the transfers and the Kashmir package together are a custom plan, priced on request.
| Package | Per person, 2 travellers (twin sharing) | Per person, 4 travellers | Per person, 6 travellers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 nights, 4 days Quick Getaway | ₹11,950 | ₹9,120 | ₹8,100 |
| 4 nights, 5 days Classic | ₹13,800 | ₹10,650 | ₹9,490 |
| 5 nights, 6 days with a Gulmarg stay | ₹16,300 | ₹12,890 | ₹11,810 |
If you are travelling from a large city, our Kashmir tour packages by city page shows how the trip starts from there, and our month-by-month guide to visiting Kashmir in 2026 helps you choose the season for the Kashmir half. If you add a mountain day in Kashmir, Gulmarg is one option; its gondola is another ticket sold by its operator, not by us: see Gulmarg, the Gulmarg Gondola guide and our page on Gulmarg Gondola ticket booking.
Where do the sources disagree?
| Item | What we found | What we use |
|---|---|---|
| Helicopter fares | ₹1,830 and ₹3,660 (a second operator page at a lowercase address, no validity dates); ₹2,320 and ₹4,640 (operator's table to 15 October 2026); ₹2,700 and ₹5,400 reported from 1 November 2026 (The Tribune, 7 September 2026); ₹699 on a travel wiki entry from 2012. | The portal's fare on your booking date. The operator's dated table and the press report are the only dated figures. |
| Who may sell at the shrine | The operator says it has no booking rights and that operators may not sell a single ticket, yet the same page says one-way Sanjichhat to Katra tickets are sold at its own counter near the shrine. | Ask the Shrine Board which counter is authorised before you pay at Sanjichhat. |
| Sanjichhat to the shrine | The Shrine Board's Sanji Chhat page and the operator say about 2.5 km. The board's distance table gives 9.5 km from Katra to Sanji Chhat and 13.0 km to the Bhawan, which would make it 3.5 km. | About 2.5 km on two sources; allow for more. |
| Katra to the shrine on foot | 12 to 13 km (the board's pony page); 13.0 km (the board's table); 12 km (our destination page); 14 km (Wikipedia's Katra article). | 12 to 14 km. |
| Altitude of Sanjichhat | 6200 in the Shrine Board's table, which prints no unit; 5,200 ft on the operator's page, which gives Katra as 2,474 ft against 2500 in the board's table. | Not used. The sources do not agree. |
| Katra from Jammu | About 50 km (the board's FAQ and how-to-reach pages); 42 km from Jammu city (Wikipedia's Katra article). | 42 to 50 km. |
| Daily pilgrim numbers | The board's registration page gives daily darshan capacity as roughly 30,000 to 35,000; The Tribune reported 39,951 to 48,400 a day on 11 to 15 October 2026. | Both, labelled: capacity as stated by the board, and reported attendance. |
| Darshan time | About 45 minutes (the operator); waits of 12 to 20 hours in peak periods (the board's climate page, dated 9 September 2023 on the site). | Both. A peak-day wait is a reason for a spare day. |
Next step: send us your dates
Buy the helicopter seat yourself on the Shrine Board's portal as soon as your date's window opens. Then send us your travel dates, the number of travellers, whether you want a night in Katra and whether you are continuing to Kashmir, through our contact page. We reply with room options and a day-by-day plan around your ticket, and we confirm rooms and transfers separately from the Shrine Board's ticket.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I book Vaishno Devi helicopter tickets officially?
On the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board's online services portal, online.maavaishnodevi.org, reached from www.maavaishnodevi.org. The helicopter operator's own site says to buy only from the Shrine Board and that operators may not sell even one ticket. Same-day tickets are sold at the board's counter at Niharika Bhawan in Katra, per the operator. We did not log in to the portal ourselves.
How much is the Vaishno Devi helicopter ticket in 2026?
The operator's fare table for 16 October 2025 to 15 October 2026 lists ₹2,320 one way and ₹4,640 return; the page says the return rates include GST. A PTI report in The Tribune on 7 September 2026 says fares rise 16.4 per cent to ₹2,700 and ₹5,400 from 1 November 2026, naming no authority. We found no published fare for travel between 16 and 31 October 2026; the operator's table ended on 15 October and the reported new fare starts on 1 November. The portal shows the fare for your date.
How early can I book, and what time does booking open?
The operator says online booking opens exactly 60 days before the travel date at 10 am every day and runs up to 4 days before travel. By our count the window reached 24 December 2026 on 25 October 2026. The Shrine Board lists weekends in May and June and the second half of December as peak periods, so for those dates book as soon as the window opens.
Can I book the helicopter offline, without the website?
Current (same-day) tickets are sold at the Shrine Board's counter at Niharika Bhawan in Katra, according to the operator, which also says one-way tickets from Sanjichhat to Katra are sold at a counter near the shrine. We could not confirm counter hours or availability on busy days. The operator says no agent or operator is authorised to sell Shrine Board tickets.
How do I spot a fake Vaishno Devi helicopter booking site?
Start from www.maavaishnodevi.org and follow its buttons; the booking portal is online.maavaishnodevi.org. The operator warns of look-alike domains, sellers who message you on social media or show a company ID, and requests to pay into a bank account, and its home page says it never confirms bookings or asks for payment through WhatsApp. If you have paid a fake seller, report it at cybercrime.gov.in or to local police.
Does TDI Holiday Ventures sell the Vaishno Devi helicopter ticket?
No. We do not issue, hold or resell Shrine Board helicopter tickets, and the operator says no agent is authorised to sell them, so check with the Shrine Board before you pay anyone who offers one. We plan what surrounds the ticket: a room in Katra, transfers, and a Kashmir trip afterwards. Your helicopter fare is paid to the Shrine Board's portal, separately from anything you pay TDI.
Does the helicopter take me to the Vaishno Devi shrine itself?
No. The service flies between helipads at Katra and Sanjichhat. On the Shrine Board's description Sanjichhat is a plateau about 2.5 km short of the shrine, and the operator puts the walk from the helipad at 30 to 40 minutes. The operator's charter page says a pony or palki can be arranged at Sanjichhat. Plan for that walk.
What happens if the helicopter is cancelled because of weather?
We could not read the board's own cancellation rules. Keep a spare night before any train or flight you cannot change, because nobody can promise a flight will run.
How much baggage can I carry on the Vaishno Devi helicopter?
One piece of hand baggage of up to 5 kg per passenger, according to the operator. Infants below 2 years or 10 kg are carried free. It prints no per-passenger weight limit but may split groups across flights by weight. Larger bags can stay in a Katra room, and the Shrine Board says its cloak rooms in Katra guest houses and at the Bhawan are free.
Is a return helicopter ticket cheaper than two one-way tickets?
No. In every set of figures we found, the return fare is exactly twice the one-way fare: ₹2,320 and ₹4,640 on the operator's table to 15 October 2026, and ₹2,700 and ₹5,400 in the report of the rise from 1 November 2026. A return ticket is simply two sectors on one booking, with a same-day or next-day return.
What if bad weather stops the helicopter?
The operator says its services depend on weather, that it is not liable for delays and that it provides no accommodation or meals. We could not read the Shrine Board's own rules, so check them on its portal before you pay. Keep a spare night before any train or flight you cannot change, because nobody can promise a flight will run.
