What does a Gulmarg ski trip include?

Off-piste skiing carries avalanche risk, and we cannot make it safe on paper. Never go without a local guide and the right equipment, and follow the lift staff when they close a run.

When is the ski season, and what if the snow is thin?

The usual ski season runs from mid-December to mid-March, with January the coldest month and March warmer. Snow cover changes from year to year, and nobody can promise snow for a given week. A heavy snowfall can close the road or the gondola for a day, while a dry spell leaves thin cover. So we keep your dates flexible where we can, add a buffer day and check conditions for your dates before you pay.

What should you pack for skiing?

Thermal base layers, a warm mid layer, and a waterproof, windproof jacket and trousers.
Ski gloves and a spare pair, warm socks, a neck gaiter and a warm cap.
Goggles and sunglasses, plus sunscreen and lip balm; the sun is strong on snow.
A helmet if you own one; otherwise ask us about renting it with your gear.
Waterproof boots for walking in town, and a small backpack for the day.
Any regular medicines, in your hand luggage.

How should you handle altitude and cold?

Gulmarg town sits at about 2,650 m and the lifts go much higher, so the cold and the thin air are real, even for fit skiers. Rest on the first afternoon, drink water and go easy on alcohol. Tell us about any heart, lung or blood-pressure condition before you book so we can plan around it, and ask your own doctor what is right for you. Ski within your level, wear a helmet and follow your instructor.

What does a sample ski trip look like?

Arrive in Srinagar, drive up to Gulmarg, check in and rest; keep the evening quiet.
A first lesson on the lower slopes with an instructor and rented gear, with Phase 1 of the gondola if the sky is clear.
A second lesson and practice runs, with the afternoon free to rest.
A buffer morning for weather, then the drive back to Srinagar for your flight.

We do not print a fixed ski package price, because it depends on the number of days, your skill level, the season and whether the stay, gear, lift passes and lessons are included. Do I need prior skiing experience?

No. We can plan a trip for absolute beginners with instructors, and equipment can be rented at the base. Beginners should book lessons and plan at least three days on snow, as our skiing guide suggests, because the first day is mostly learning to balance and fall safely.

When is the ski season in Gulmarg?
