Urbania Kashmir Cab Service: A Full-Size Van for Groups of 12 to 18

When a group is too large for two cars and you would rather not split up, the Urbania is the vehicle to ask about. It is a high-roof, air-conditioned passenger van of the kind used for group travel across India, and our transport page lists it for extended groups: wedding groups, college trips and agency charters. This page, from the TDI Holiday Ventures planning desk in Srinagar, explains who it suits, how it compares with a Tempo Traveller or a mini bus, what to tell us when you enquire and how we plan a day with it.

What is an Urbania, and how many people does it carry?

The Urbania is a Force Motors passenger van with a tall roof, a wide aisle and large side windows. Our mini bus page describes group vans for 12 to 18 passengers, depending on the model and configuration. A layout with more seats leaves less room for bags and legs, so give us your headcount, children included, and we confirm the layout for your dates instead of promising a number in advance.

That page lists air conditioning, push-back seats, overhead luggage storage and a music system for our group vans. Ask which of these the van assigned to your dates has, and put anything you care about in writing.

Who is the Urbania for?

  • Wedding groups moving guests between the airport, hotels and venues on a fixed schedule.
  • College and school trips, where one vehicle keeps the whole group together and one driver knows the plan.
  • Large family reunions with several generations who want a single pick-up time.
  • Tour groups that need one dependable vehicle for a set route across the valley.
  • Pilgrimage parties travelling between Srinagar, Jammu and Katra; see our Katra to Srinagar taxi page.

How does an Urbania compare with a Tempo Traveller or an Innova?

All of these are driver-driven vehicles, so the choice is mostly about headcount and luggage. The table sets out how our own pages describe each one.

VehicleGroup size on our pagesGood forWatch for
InnovaUp to 7 including the driverA family of five or six adults with bagsLuggage shares space with people
8 Seater Tempo Traveller8 passengers plus the driverSmall groups and two families togetherFewer seats spare for bags

UrbaniaAbout 12 to 18, depending on layoutWedding guests, college trips, tour groupsConfirm the layout and how the bags travel

Our advice: choose by luggage as well as seats. A van that is full of people and has no space for suitcases means a second vehicle, and it is better to plan that now than at the airport.

Where can an Urbania go in Kashmir?

On the main valley roads a van of this size is a comfortable choice: airport transfers, the Srinagar city loop, and day trips to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg. Plan a little extra time, because a large vehicle is slower on narrow, winding mountain stretches and in the queues of peak season.

Roads and rules change with snow and landslides, and the last stretch to Gulmarg has winter conditions of its own. For Ladakh, Gurez, Doodhpathri and other high or narrow routes, we check that the road and the vehicle suit each other before we suggest a van. For a long ride to the plains, see our Jammu to Srinagar taxi page, and for Ladakh our Srinagar to Leh Tempo Traveller page.

What should you tell us when you enquire?

  1. Your dates and the route, day by day, or just the airport and hotel if it is a single transfer.
  2. The number of guests, with children and their ages, and anyone who needs front-row seats or step-free help.
  3. The luggage: roughly how many large suitcases and how many soft bags.
  4. Your pick-up points, such as the airport, a hotel or a houseboat ghat, and the drop.
  5. Whether you also want stays arranged; we can quote hotels and houseboats beside the vehicle.

Send these through our contact page or on WhatsApp. We reply with a vehicle, a quote and a list of what it covers.

What does an Urbania quote cover?

We do not print a fixed Urbania tariff, because the price moves with the route, the number of days, the season and the group. Ask us to write down what is included: driver, fuel, tolls, parking, the driver's night halt on multi-day trips and any permit. Our Innova page lists fuel, toll tax, driver allowance and GST as included and says parking and interstate taxes may be extra; ask the same questions of an Urbania quote. We confirm the figure for your dates before you pay.

How do you keep a big-group day easy?

  • Name one group leader as the contact for the driver, so instructions do not arrive from fifteen phones.
  • Pack in soft bags where you can; fifteen hard suitcases rarely fit together with fifteen people.
  • Agree meal and rest stops in advance, especially on the Gulmarg and Sonmarg roads, where roadside choices are fewer.
  • Seat anyone prone to travel sickness near the front, since hill roads wind.
  • Start early on day trips and agree a clear return time at each stop.
  • For a family of fewer than ten, see our group tour and family packages pages; a smaller vehicle may suit better.

Frequently asked questions

How many people fit in an Urbania?

Our mini bus page describes group vans for 12 to 18 passengers, depending on the model and configuration. The exact count for your dates depends on the layout of the van assigned. Tell us your headcount and luggage and we confirm the layout in writing before you pay.

Is an Urbania better than a Tempo Traveller?

It depends on the group. A Tempo Traveller is usually enough up to about fourteen or seventeen seats, and the Urbania is for parties at the larger end that want one vehicle. Choose by headcount and luggage, and ask us which seat layout leaves room for your bags.

Can an Urbania go to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg?

Yes, these are standard valley routes and a van of this size is a comfortable choice for them. Allow extra time on narrow hill stretches, and expect winter snow, chains rules or closures to change the plan. We confirm the road and the vehicle for your date.

How do I get a quote for an Urbania?

Send your dates, route, headcount, luggage and pick-up points through our contact page or on WhatsApp. We reply with the vehicle, a quote and a list of what it covers, and confirm the figure for your dates before you pay.

Is there enough luggage space for a full group?

A full van carries people first, and luggage space depends on the seat layout. Soft bags travel better than hard suitcases. If your bags will not fit, we plan a second vehicle or a luggage arrangement in advance, so tell us the number and size of bags when you enquire.
