When you need all 17 seats

Splitting a big group across three cars means three drivers, three sets of stops and a lot of waiting at junctions. A 17-seater keeps everyone in one place, which is why it is the choice for wedding guests, a pilgrim batch or a school or college tour with one leader. If your group is under about twelve, the 14-seater leaves more room for bags and is easier on hill roads.

What is inside

The cabin is designed for long days. The seats recline, each passenger has an air vent and a reading light, there are charging sockets for phones, and the high roof gives room to stand and move at a halt. A music system helps with the hours between stops. The rear boot is large, but a full vehicle with big suitcases can still be tight, so tell us the number of bags when you enquire.

Where it goes

The 17-seater runs on the longest routes: the road to Leh described on our Srinagar to Leh Tempo Traveller page, the highway to Jammu on the Srinagar to Jammu Tempo Traveller page, and on to Katra for Vaishno Devi. It is just as useful for a multi-day Kashmir tour that visits Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg, where one vehicle and one driver keep the group together.

The driver and the roads

Every rental goes with an experienced, licensed driver who knows the valley's roads. A vehicle this size is longer and heavier than a car, so on narrow hill roads the driver sets the pace, finds the safe place to pass and chooses the timing of each stop. Leave that to him and plan a little extra time for the bends.
