Embark on the Ride of a Lifetime

Book your Ladakh bike rental with TDI Holiday Ventures and experience the thrill of riding through the world's highest motorable passes.

Why people ride Ladakh

Ladakh is the road trip that other road trips are measured against: bare mountains, wide valleys, blue lakes and passes among the highest motorable roads anywhere. The riding is demanding as well as beautiful. The air is thin, the weather turns fast and the surface changes from smooth tarmac to gravel and water crossings within an hour. That is why a rental here is more than a bike; it is the preparation, the support and the advice that come with it.

Which bike for which rider

  • The Himalayan is the most recommended all-rounder: an upright seat, steady handling on broken roads and a comfortable ride at altitude. It is the one we would choose for a first Ladakh ride.
  • The Classic 350 is the familiar Royal Enfield for riders who want the traditional feel on tarmac-heavy routes and are comfortable with a simpler bike.
  • The Interceptor 650 is a faster, smoother twin for experienced riders who will spend most of the trip on good roads and want power on the long straights.

Routes riders ask for

The three names that come up most are Khardung La, Chang La and the Manali to Leh highway. A day over Khardung La to the Nubra Valley and a day to Pangong over Chang La are the classic Leh-based rides. The route from Srinagar through Sonmarg, Kargil and Leh is another way in; see how the road works in our Srinagar to Ladakh taxi guide and the plans in our Ladakh packages. If you want the scenery without the riding, the Short Trip to Ladakh covers Leh, Nubra and Pangong by private vehicle.

What the rental includes

Rentals cover the bike, riding gear, backup support and route guidance. Before every trip the team checks the bike, and bikes carry essential spares and are tuned for thin air. For group trips there is backup vehicle support, and mechanical help and spare parts are available at our Leh centre. A solo rider gets route notes and emergency contact numbers; ask whether you prefer a guided group departure.

Documents, permits and altitude

You need a valid driving licence, an identity document and a refundable security deposit. Some areas of Ladakh need an inner line permit and we arrange these; the rules and fees change, so we confirm what applies to your dates when you book. Altitude is the real risk. Give yourself a full day in Leh before any high pass, drink water, ride slowly, and turn back if you feel unwell. A bike trip is not the time to push through a headache.

When to go

June to September is the usual window, when the passes are open and the weather is steadier. Early and late in the season, snow and cold can close a pass without notice, so we keep dates flexible and confirm road status before you leave.

How to book

  • Tell us the dates, the number of riders and whether you want to ride solo or in a guided group.
  • We suggest a bike and a route and confirm the deposit, permits and support in writing.
  • You collect the bike in Leh after a briefing and a check, and ride with the contact numbers we give you.

Written by the TDI Holiday Ventures planning desk in Srinagar. Conditions, fares and rules change: confirm anything that affects your booking with us on WhatsApp before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Which bike is best for a Ladakh trip?

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is the most recommended choice for its comfortable riding position and steady performance at altitude. The Classic 350 and the Interceptor 650 are also available.

What is the best time for a bike trip in Ladakh?

Roughly June to September, when the passes are open and the weather is more settled. Conditions can still change quickly, so we confirm road status before you ride.

Do you offer backup support?

Yes. Backup vehicle support is offered for group trips, and mechanical help and spares are available at our Leh centre.

What documents do I need?

A valid driving licence, an identity document and a refundable security deposit. We arrange the inner line permits for areas that need them and confirm the current rules for your dates.

Can I ride solo, or only in a group?

Both are possible. Solo riders get detailed route notes and emergency contact numbers, and guided group trips are available.
