Why the Himalayan suits these roads

The Himalayan was built for exactly this kind of riding. Long-travel suspension soaks up broken surfaces, the upright seat is easy on the back over a long day and the 21-inch front wheel handles gravel and loose dirt with more confidence than a smaller wheel. The 411cc engine produces its power low in the range, which helps on steep climbs at altitude, where thin air takes power from any engine.

Fitted for the mountains

Our Himalayans carry engine guards, hand guards, a sump guard and luggage racks, the basic protection for gravel, water crossings and the occasional fall. Srinagar to Leh, one way

The two centres let you plan a one-way trip without riding back to the start. Many riders take the bike from Srinagar, ride over the Zoji La to Kargil and Leh, and return it there. Additional drop-off charges may apply, and we confirm them in writing. Season, altitude and safety

The Ladakh passes are usually open from about June to September. Altitude is a real risk: spend a day in Leh before the high passes, drink water and turn back if you feel unwell. Carry spares, ride in daylight and keep to the pace the road allows. We brief you at collection, check the bike with you and give you the contact numbers for help.

A valid driving licence, identity proof and a security deposit. Some areas need permits, which we arrange; we confirm the current rules for your dates.
