Pahalgam deserves more than a rushed day trip from Srinagar. With its surrounding valleys, riverside walks, and pony trails, the Valley of Shepherds rewards those who stay. Here are two itinerary options.
Option 1: 2-Day Pahalgam Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Baisaran Pony Ride Arrive in Pahalgam by noon (2.5-hour drive from Srinagar). Check into your hotel and have lunch. At 2 PM, head to the pony stand for a ride to Baisaran — the Mini Switzerland of Kashmir. The 45-minute pony ride climbs through pine forests to a wide, open meadow with panoramic mountain views. Return by 5 PM. Spend the evening walking along the Lidder River. Dinner at your hotel or a riverside café.
Day 2: Betaab & Aru Valley Excursion Start early — 8 AM. Drive to Betaab Valley (15 km, 30 min). Spend 1.5 hours exploring the meadow. Continue to Aru Valley (5 km beyond Betaab) for another 1.5 hours. Return to Pahalgam by 1 PM. Lunch and departure to Srinagar.
Option 2: 3-Day Pahalgam Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, Lidder Walk, Local Market Arrive by noon. Check in. After lunch, take a slow walk along the Lidder River — the stretch near the Pahalgam Club is particularly beautiful. Explore the local market for Kashmiri shawls, dry fruit, and handicrafts. Dinner at a riverside café.
Day 2: Baisaran Pony Ride & Chandanwari Morning pony ride to Baisaran (depart by 9 AM, return by 1 PM). Lunch. Afternoon drive to Chandanwari (15 km) — the Amarnath base camp with dramatic rocky terrain. Stop at the ice-cold stream. Return by 6 PM.
Day 3: Betaab-Aru Combo & Departure Combined visit to Betaab Valley and Aru Valley (8 AM–1 PM). Return to Pahalgam for lunch. Depart to Srinagar by 2 PM.
