Four days is the plan we are asked for most, because it is just long enough. You get a night on Dal Lake, the Mughal gardens, a day in the meadows of Gulmarg and a day in the river valley of Pahalgam, with a day to arrive and a morning to leave. This guide, from the TDI Holiday Ventures planning desk in Srinagar, follows our 3N/4D Quick Getaway day by day, then shows what to change for your season, your group and your flights.
What does a 4-day Kashmir trip cover?
Three places and one lake. Srinagar is the base, so every night is in the same city and every excursion returns to it. That keeps packing simple and the days easy to move if the weather turns. The cost of that choice is two long drives, each on its own day.
| Day | Route | Drive from Srinagar | Night |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Airport pickup, Dal Lake houseboat, Mughal gardens, Shankaracharya temple, shikara ride | City only | Houseboat on Dal Lake |
| 2 | Gulmarg: gondola ride, meadows, back by evening | About 1.5 hours each way | Houseboat |
| 3 | Pahalgam: Lidder valley, optional Betaab, Aru and Chandanwari, back by evening | About 2 hours each way | Houseboat |
| 4 | Check out and airport drop | City only | Fly out |
Day 1: arrival, the houseboat and the gardens
A representative meets you at Srinagar airport and takes you to a Dal Lake houseboat. After check-in the day is about the city: Nishat Bagh, the Garden of Pleasure, and Shalimar Bagh, the Abode of Love, both laid out along symmetrical waterways with fountains. Pari Mahal, Chashme Shahi and the Shankaracharya temple fit around them, and a one-hour shikara ride on the lake finishes the day. Dinner and the night are on the houseboat.
If you land after lunch, drop the temple and one garden, and keep the shikara for the evening light. Our Mughal gardens guide tells you which to keep, and our Dal Lake guide explains what a houseboat night is like.
Day 2: Gulmarg and the gondola
After breakfast you drive to Gulmarg, about an hour and a half from Srinagar. The gondola, with Phase 1 tickets payable on site, takes you up to Kongdoori for wide views of the Pir Panjal range. You spend the day among pine forests and meadows and, in winter, on snow-covered slopes. Skiing or snow sports can be arranged on request. You return to the houseboat by evening.
- Leave by eight or nine in the morning, so you reach the lift before the queue builds.
- Gondola tickets are not in the package price. Our gondola page explains how to buy them and why the lift can be closed on some days.
- In winter, ask us about chains and vehicle limits on the Tangmarg road before you choose the date.
- Dress in layers; Gulmarg is colder and windier than Srinagar in every season.
Day 3: Pahalgam and the Lidder valley
Pahalgam is about two hours from Srinagar on our package page, through apple orchards and saffron fields. The Lidder river is the heart of the day. Optional stops are Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari, which are paid directly, and pony rides to the Baisaran meadow can be arranged locally. We suggest choosing one or two of these, not all of them. Read our Pahalgam travel guide and Aru Valley guide to decide.
You return to Srinagar for the last night. In the rafting season the Lidder also offers river trips; see our Pahalgam rafting page if that appeals.
Day 4: departure
After breakfast you check out and transfer to the airport. Keep the morning free of plans, and leave generous time for the drive, since Srinagar traffic and airport checks can be slow. If your flight is late, add a short shikara ride or a walk in the old city; our Old Srinagar heritage walk is made for that.
What does the 3N/4D Quick Getaway cost, and what is extra?
| Travellers | Per person, twin sharing, ex-Srinagar | Vehicle on the package |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | ₹11,950 | Etios |
| 4 | ₹9,120 | Rumion |
| 6 | ₹8,100 | Rumion |
| Extra bed | ₹4,330 |
These figures come from the package's own price table, at 3N/4D Quick Getaway. The package covers deluxe rooms as per the hotel list, daily breakfast and dinner, a one-hour shikara ride on Dal Lake, airport pickup and drop, a private vehicle for transfers and sightseeing, and all taxes. It excludes airfare, lunch, the gondola tickets, the Betaab, Aru, Chandanwari and Baisaran trips, guide charges, entrance fees, personal expenses and any cost caused by natural calamities such as landslides or strikes. It lists three hotel tiers but prints one price per group size, so ask which tier a price assumes.
What can you change in this itinerary?
| If you want | Then | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Sonmarg instead of Pahalgam | Swap day 3 | Sonmarg is about three hours each way and easiest in summer; see Sonmarg |
| A night in the hills | Add a night and sleep in Gulmarg or Pahalgam | More time on site, but one more night; see our Gulmarg stay package |
| A land hotel for part of the stay | Ask for a Srinagar hotel for the second night | Less atmosphere, more heating and comfort in winter |
| A rest day | Add a day in Srinagar between the hill trips | Better for children and older relatives |
| A snow-focused plan | Choose December to March and keep a spare day | Snow cannot be promised; see our winter packages |
How does the season change the four days?
| Season | What the four days feel like | Plan around |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | Blossom, tulips and showers | A raincoat and a spare hour; see our tulip guide |
| Summer | Warm valley, cool hills and busy roads | Early starts and early booking |
| Autumn | Gold chinar leaves and cold nights | Warm layers for the houseboat |
| Winter | Cold, quiet and snowy in Gulmarg | Heating on the houseboat and road orders on the Gulmarg road |
Is four days enough?
It is enough to enjoy Kashmir, not to explore it. If you want Sonmarg too, our five-day itinerary adds it. If you want a night in the hills, or time for Doodhpathri, see our seven-day itinerary. If you only have three days, our three-day itinerary shows what to drop. For a month-by-month view, read our Kashmir by month guide.
What is the next step?
Send your dates, the number of travellers, your flights and the hotel tier you prefer through our contact page. Our site says a Srinagar planner replies within 30 minutes. We confirm the rate for your dates and tell you what the price includes before you pay.
Questions travellers ask
Is a Kashmir 4 day itinerary enough for Gulmarg and Pahalgam?
Yes. With a Srinagar base you can give Gulmarg and Pahalgam a full day each, plus an arrival day for the gardens and the houseboat and a morning for departure. It does not leave room for Sonmarg, and it has no spare day for bad weather.
How much does the 3N/4D Kashmir package cost?
From ₹11,950 per person for two travellers on twin sharing, ex-Srinagar, according to the package's price table. For four travellers it is ₹9,120 per person, and for six ₹8,100. An extra bed is ₹4,330. Airfare, lunch and gondola tickets are not included.
Should I put Gulmarg or Pahalgam first?
Put the day you care about most in the middle, away from your flights. If you want snow in winter, do Gulmarg first, so you have a spare day if the weather turns. In summer, the order matters little. We check the forecast and move the days if needed.
Can I stay in Gulmarg or Pahalgam instead of going back to Srinagar?
Yes, but it means a longer trip. Our Gulmarg stay and Explorer packages include nights in the hills, and we can re-price a four-day plan with one night in Gulmarg or Pahalgam. Ask us for the rate on your dates.
Is the 4-day itinerary suitable for children and older parents?
It can be, with changes. Each excursion is two or more hours by road and the days are long, so older travellers and young children may prefer a rest day or a land hotel. Tell us the ages and we adapt the plan. Our family and senior citizen package pages cover this.
What if snow or rain stops the Gulmarg trip?
We check the road and the weather on the morning of the drive, and we swap days if we can, for example doing Pahalgam first. Nobody can promise the weather, so a spare day is the most reliable protection. Costs caused by landslides or other calamities are not in the package price.
